Does the kitchen need
special ventilation? There is a requirement
for ventilation in the proposed installation room to comply with British
Standard 5440 part 2: 2000. Generally, if the kitchen exceeds 5 cubic metres,
has a window and door that opens to outside air and there are no other gas
appliances in the room, there should be no concern. In all other scenarios,
we would recommend that a competent person surveys the area to ensure
adequate ventilation exists. Is there anything special
I need to know before installing an extractor hood? If the hood is
recirculating air back into the kitchen there should be no problems. If the hood extracts
air to outside, BS 5440 part 2:2000 states it should not be fitted if there
is an open -flued fossil burning appliance in the same room. This would include open
and normally flued gas fires, AGA cookers and open flued boilers. If concern
exists, contact the hood manufacturers or suppliers for exact information
before using or installing. Care should also be
employed if exhausting an extractor hood into a chimney. There is always the
possibility of pressurising the chimney matrix causing fires elsewhere in the
building, or next door, to vent products of combustion back into the rooms -
with dangerous consequences. |
